About the Foundation

The Pearl Dixon Balthis Foundation was established by W. L. Balthis of Gastonia, North Carolina in 1959 in memory of his late wife to provide funding to charitable organizations meeting the requirements of the Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) primarily in Gaston County North Carolina.

Guidelines

Funding Priorities

  • Religious organizations affiliated with the Episcopal Church including those organizations that provide Theological Seminary Education
  • Nonprofit organizations that benefit families and children in Gaston County, NC

Geographic Focus

Grantmaking is limited to organizations operating in Gaston County, North Carolina.

Eligibility Requirements

The Board of Trustees will consider all qualified applications received from organizations that are exempt from taxation under the Internal Revenue Code Section 501 (c)(3). If you are a 509 (a)(3) Supporting Organization, please be prepared to provide additional information. Grants are not made to support individuals.

Grant Cycle and Deadline Information

Applications must be received by April 15th. Organizations selected to receive funding will be notified by June 30th.

Grant proposals are evaluated on the basis of a demonstrated need for the project; clearly stated objectives and a well-developed plan for achieving them; evidence of the organization’s ability to manage, funds and sustain the project; and appropriateness to the interests of the Trust.

Recipients of grants are expected to submit a report on the expenditure of the funds and an evaluation of the project.

Grant Range

The average grant size is between $5,000 – $10,000.
